Text Box: With the New Year just beginning and the resolutions that go along with it, January is the prefect time to commit to getting organized.  So, as we whittle away at the cluttered and disorganized areas in our lives, we can look forward to extra time to sit back and enjoy.  An organized home office will make for a faster and more pleasant workday.  Here are a few ideas to get your office organized:
1)       Create a well defined space to contain all your office essentials and files.  Try moving all your files and papers one central location.
2)       Keep your personal files and papers separate from your business things.  Create a separate spots for personal files.
3)       Create a file system that works for you.  What will be the easiest way for you to find it?  (file folders, metal file sorter, expanding folders, etc.)  Keep it simple, label all projects, use consistent naming for project files, keep active projects close at hand, limit project paperwork and file projects completed.
4)       Take a look at your work area. Use your new file system and find homes for anything else that doesn’t belong in your office space.
5)       Computer and emails. Create a work folder and use subfolders for particular employees, projects, etc.  Emails should be sorted as soon as you read them.  It only takes a second or two to save emails in a particular folder and this will avoid wasting time in the future.
6)       Set aside a little time each day and every few months to clean up and purge files no longer needed.
7)       Add a personal touch to your office with pictures, plants and whatever else makes your office a pleasant place to work.
Now that your office is organized, you’ll have enough time to smell the roses.  Good luck organizing and have a great winter.
